Honours and achievements

In 2010, Finnish President Tarja Halonen awarded Ruskis’ physiotherapist Kira Durchman and lecturer Juha Salo with the Order of the White Rose of Finland in recognition of their accomplishments.

For nearly the past thirty years, Kira Durchman has significantly developed swimming instruction for special needs children and swim instructor training. Juha Salo has meanwhile invented tools to help children play music.

New book out on conductive education!

Conductive education—for a well-rounded school day

This book presents two Nordic models: Ruskis in Helsinki and the Stockholm-based Joriel school. Both schools have found a functioning model for transdisciplinary cooperation. Conductive education methods form a basis to examine teaching, school routines and schedules in a novel way. The book offers insights for anyone interested in teaching and developing the profession.

Anniversary celebration

Ruskis celebrated its 120th anniversary in November 2010. Current and former students, staff, parents and guests gathered at the school to mark this milestone anniversary. Emeritus Professor Kari Uusikylä presented the ceremonial address and Minister of Education Henna Virkkunen gave a government address.

Minister Virkkunen said the students at Ruskis receive high quality basic education and skills for life. She pointed out that Ruskis also plays an important role in providing services for pupils and staff at other schools.
